Why do I print?

Well, if you’re working in simple lines, you’ve really got to decide what you think is important. Establishing those essential elements calls for time and effort, but when you do finally capture them, it’s really exciting to get down to cutting into the block.

I also like working in a tradition of hand made art dating back to medieval times, yet which has a modern legacy and encourages more than just representation. Printing frees me: I have to be bold and committed. Perhaps that’s why many practitioners of printing have been political. For myself, it’s about decision. I’m an artist who draws, paints, and assembles collages – but I’m most at home amongst the suggested shapes, silhouettes, flat forms and incised lines of relief print making.
