Artist's impression of Dorothy Sykes!
Love in a mist
I grew up in Clovelly, moved away to study (BA Hons. Communication Arts, Sheffield 1984) and work and returned to Bideford in 1988.

My first experience of a digital camera was when I borrowed a friend's to take some pictures for my daughter's GCSE art project. Whilst she was taking her pictures I was itching to get my hands on the camera, finally it was my turn!

It was the immediacy and quality of the medium that grabbed me. The ability to capture the ephemeral; the light, the wind, the moment. I started taking pictures...

The close up focus on the fragile and the solid creates minature worlds full of texture and space which seem to hold a sense of stillness and calm. All sets are found or created in nature and are not digitally enhanced on the computer because, quite simply, I enjoy being outside much more than in the front of a screen.
