| Appledore is a pretty fishing village set on a hillside criss-crossed by narrow cobbled lanes that open out on to the quay. |

Over the years, many artists and craftspeople have made Appledore their home and today a number of galleries display local work. |
| The village has a seafaring background and is the home of the North Devon Maritime Museum. Traditional fishing vessels moor alongside pleasure craft offering cruises on the river, and a seasonal ferry links Appledore across the estuary to Instow, a charming waterside village boasting soft golden sands and a cosmopolitan yacht club. |
